    The Holiday spirit was in full swing last week in the Central Valley, where SchoolCity and over 10 Districts, representing the area, embarked on Personalized Learning, NGSS upcoming items, tools in Technology, Assessment & Benchmark creation and other upcoming news to support RTI interventions and tracking. It was a full house at the Marriott Convention Center in Bakersfield, CA.

    With all the Holiday flare in the air, these local Educational Leaders even took time to participate in a “Snowball fight” while engaging in key conceptual questions and gathering ideas from fellow peers. Excitement was in the air, with a little healthy competition.



    Moreover, as part of SchoolCity’s mission, the pathway to supporting customers and tailoring to their specific needs was at the very heart of this annual free regional conference. Part of my personal mission, as this particular region’s Account Manager, was to plan a day that met the needs of academic initiatives, goals, visions and to build a conference centered on these particular personalized items.

    Moving into the 21st Century and the changes with CCSS, NGSS, ESSA, ELPAC and CAASPP results, encourages us, here at SchoolCity, to produce, create and innovate even more technical tools to support the teacher and student usability. The sense of urgency is strong and these User Conferences have empowered regions to take a day to reflect, revisit and regain perspective to all the items that are readily available to them to support learning across various learning needs, styles and grade levels. Bakersfield leaders are on the cusp and in many regards ahead of the curve in:

    1. Obtaining and tailoring Benchmarks to support their teachers to inform instruction
    2. Utilizing SchoolCity to analyze and create Intervention Groups instantly to support gaps in skill sets
    3. Grasping and tailoring new Curriculum Adoptions and uploading scores into SchoolCity for stronger reporting mechanisms and to see the strengths of mastery and items that need re-teaching
    4. Formulating stronger PLC teams with the data gathered in SchoolCity Reports
    5. Moving quickly to a 1:1 Tech model where students are taking assessments online only with various Item types (Multiple Response, Constructed Response)

    One of the most exciting presenters of the day was a fellow SchoolCity customer and Instructional Coach, Kimberly Reynolds, who supports Greeley Weld D6 in Greeley, Colorado. Her presentation on Data + Dialogue = Personalized Decisions was rich in accelerated growth for students across the board, with a dual focus on utilizing SchoolCity Assessment & Analysis Reporting, while embracing teacher reflective coaching to inform instruction immediately to improve levels of mastery. Her passion, knowledge, and accelerated growth in one year was nothing less than extraordinary.


    With a common mission in Student Efficacy and Ownership, SchoolCity presenter Will Brock (Arizona Account Manager) led a presentation on Student Ownership of Data and strategies on how to create a data driven climate and culture among students. Furthermore, we took a closer look at the Student Portal of SchoolCity and the resources and goal setting that students can embark upon, to capitalize on a more rigorous learning environment that would build up their efficacy and ownership towards their learning.
